7 Powerful Lessons Kids can Learn from Disney Princesses

*Collaborative Post*

Disney Princesses are often seen as role models for young girls. They are strong, independent women who have overcome obstacles and achieved their dreams.

Disney Princesses

While there are many positive aspects to these characters, there are also some negative ones. For instance, Disney Princesses often send the message that physical appearance is important. They also promote the idea of waiting for a prince to come and rescue them.

Girls like to think about what Disney princesses they look like, right?

There’s no harm done just if we highlight these character flaws to our kids and help them understand that they don’t have to be perfect to be a strong and successful woman.

We can also use Disney Princesses as an opportunity to teach our girls about kindness, perseverance, and courage. After all, these are the qualities that truly make a princess.

One of the great things about Disney Princess movies is that they often teach kids important life lessons.

Here are several Disney Princesses who embody these messages or life lessons.

The 7 Lessons

There are certain challenges in life that kids tend to think about. And in Disney movies, the challenges that kids think about are generally overcome by a Disney Princess.

The stories of Disney Princesses offer lessons in bravery, resilience, and determination that young girls can learn from and use in their own lives when they face difficult situations.

Let’s see how the princesses cope with those challenges and what they can teach the kids.

1. Appreciate Your Family

By taking some time to watch these movies with your class, or discuss the movies with the students, you can help them learn this valuable lesson.

Mulan

Mulan is a great example of appreciating your family even when they don’t quite understand you. In the movie, Mulan disguises herself as a man in order to take her father’s place in the Chinese army.

Her father is initially not happy about this decision but comes to respect and appreciate Mulan for her bravery.

Merida

Merida from “Brave” also teaches kids the importance of appreciating your family. In the movie, Merida is a strong-willed princess who doesn’t want to follow the traditional path that her parents have set out for her.

While this causes some tension at first, ultimately Merida’s parents come to understand and appreciate her for who she is.

Elsa

Lastly, Elsa from “Frozen” also teaches the importance of appreciating your family. At the beginning of the movie, Elsa accidentally injures her sister with her ice powers and runs away in shame.
