Rainbow Scavenger Hunt for Preschoolers

Are you looking for a fun and engaging way to explore the colors of the rainbow with young children?  A Rainbow Scavenger Hunt is a great activity that encourages children to observe their surroundings, practice color recognition, and get moving! It can be done indoors or outside, and is perfect for spring time if you are talking about rainbows.  Plus, we’ve created a FREE printable checklist to make it  easier for children to track their colorful findings!

How to Set Up a Rainbow Scavenger Hunt
Setting up your rainbow scavenger hunt is simple and requires minimal preparation. Here’s how to get started:

Download and print the checklist.  Choose between having children go pick up each item or draw each item.

  1. Gather your materials. You’ll need a clipboard (optional), a bag of some sort – brown paper bag, grocery bag, etc. (optional) crayons, or markers.  Give each child a clip board with the checklist and either a crayon or marker of each color.  If they are picking up items, give them a bag to put the items in.
  2. Explain the activity. Encourage children to find objects that match each color of the rainbow.
  3. Start hunting! Kids can mark off each item as they find it and put it in their bag.  If doing drawings, children will draw what they see.
