Keeping young children engaged while teaching them about dental health is easy with music and movement! We are sharing some fun, interactive songs and activities designed to help young children learn about brushing, flossing, and keeping their teeth strong—all while dancing, singing, and moving. Perfect for Children’s Dental Health Month in February or any time that you want to talk about the importance of healthy teeth.
Healthy Teeth Songs:
🦷 Chomp Chomp, Brush Brush (Tune: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star)
(Movements: Pretend to chomp like an alligator, then pretend to brush teeth)
Chomp, chomp, chomp away,
We use our teeth every day!
Brush, brush, brush them clean,
Make them shiny, make them gleam!
Chomp, chomp, chomp away,
Healthy teeth are here to stay!
🎵 Brush Up, Brush Down (Tune: The Wheels on the Bus)
(Movements: Pretend to brush up and down, side to side, and in circles)
The brush on your teeth goes up and down,
Up and down, up and down,
The brush on your teeth goes up and down,
To keep them nice and clean!
Additional Verses:
- The brush on your teeth goes side to side…
- The brush on your teeth goes round and round…
🦷 Five Little Teeth (Tune: Five Little Ducks)
(Movements: Hold up fingers to count teeth, pretend to brush and floss)
Five little teeth were clean and bright,
Mom said, “Brush them every night!”
I brushed and flossed, oh what a sight,
Now my teeth are sparkling white!
(Count down from five to one!)
🎵 Brush, Brush, Brush Your Teeth (Tune: Row, Row, Row Your Boat)
Brush, brush, brush your teeth,
Brush them every day!
Front, back, don’t forget,
Wash the sugar away!
🦷 The Toothbrush Dance (Tune: If You’re Happy and You Know It)
If you’re brushing in the morning, scrub up high!
If you’re brushing in the morning, scrub down low!
If you want a healthy smile, you’ve got to brush a while,
If you’re brushing in the morning, way to go!
Healthy Teeth Movement:
🦷 Jump for Healthy Teeth!
Call out the name of a food (or hold up pictures of different foods).
- If it’s healthy for teeth (milk, apples, cheese), kids jump up!
- If it’s bad for teeth (candy, soda), kids squat down to “hide from cavities.”
🦷 Tooth Fairy Dance
🧚♀️ Play music and let kids “fly” around like the Tooth Fairy.
- When the music stops, yell out “BRUSH!”
- Kids must freeze and pretend to brush their teeth!
- When the music starts again, they “fly” around again.
🦷Flossing Dance
💃 Play a fun, energetic song and give children ribbon sticks or scarves to use to “floss” by moving their arms back and forth.
- Use the scarf or ribbon as pretend floss, guiding them between two imaginary teeth.
- Add spins, jumps, and wiggles to keep the energy up and make it even more fun!
🦷Toothbrush Parade
🪥 Give each child a toothbrush (either a regular toothbrush or for more fun, a giant toothbrush!) and have them march around the room.
- Encourage them to make brushing motions as they march, pretending to brush their teeth.
- Play a fun tune to make it feel like a parade and reinforce brushing as part of the routine!
🦷 Toothbrush Tag
🏃♀️ One child is the cavity and another is the toothbrush.
- The cavity tries to tag kids, making them “dirty teeth” (freeze in place).
- The toothbrush runs around and “brushes” them (tags them) to unfreeze them!
- Play until all teeth are clean!
