Thanksgiving Songs

I’m a Little Turkey
(Tune: I’m a Little Teapot)

I’m a little turkey,
Fluffy and brown,
I spread my feathers,
As I strut around.
I have lots of feathers,
On my back,
Gobble, gobble, gobble,
That’s my quack!

Mr. Turkey
(Tune: Frère Jacques)

Mr. Turkey, Mr. Turkey,
Run away, run away.
If you’re not careful,
You will be a mouthful,
Thanksgiving Day, Thanksgiving Day.

If You’re Thankful and You Know It
(Tune: If You’re Happy and You Know It)

If you’re thankful and you know it, clap your hands,
If you’re thankful and you know it, clap your hands,
If you’re thankful and you know it,
Then your face will surely show it,
If you’re thankful and you know it, clap your hands!
(Continue with stomping feet, nodding head, etc.)

I’m Thankful for My Family
(Tune: London Bridge)

I’m thankful for my family,
Family, family.
I’m thankful for my family,
On Thanksgiving Day.

The Turkey Wobble
(Tune: The Hokey Pokey)

You put your right wing in,
You put your right wing out,
You put your right wing in,
And you shake it all about.
You do the turkey wobble,
And you turn yourself around,
That’s what it’s all about!
(Continue with “left wing,” “tail feathers,” etc.)

Five Little Turkeys
(Tune: Five Little Ducks Went Out One Day)

Five little turkeys sitting by the barn,
Gobble, gobble, gobble, said the big old tom,
One waddled off and found a place to roam,
Now there are four turkeys left at home.
(Repeat, counting down to one.)

Gobble, Gobble, Gobble
(Tune: Baa Baa Black Sheep)

Gobble, gobble, gobble,
Big and fat,
Turkey feathers,
Fancy hat.
Thanksgiving Day is coming soon,
I’m glad I’m not on your table at noon!

A Turkey is a Funny Bird
(Tune: Itsy Bitsy Spider)

A turkey is a funny bird,
Its head goes wobble, wobble.
And all it knows is just one word:
Gobble, gobble, gobble!

Ten Little Turkeys
(Tune: Ten Little Indians)

One little, two little, three little turkeys,
Four little, five little, six little turkeys,
Seven little, eight little, nine little turkeys,
Ten little turkeys say gobble, gobble, gobble!

Thanksgiving Movement & Fingerplays

I’m a Little Turkey
(Tune: I’m a Little Teapot)

I’m a little turkey, short and stout,
(Hold hands to form round body)
Here are my feathers, here is my snout.
(Point to shoulders for feathers, touch nose)
When I see the farmer, I run away,
(Run in place)
Then I shout, “Gobble, gobble, gobble!” all day!
(Hands up and “gobble” loudly)

Five Little Pilgrims

Five little Pilgrims went out to play,
(Hold up five fingers)
Over the hills and far away.
(Wave hand as if waving away)
When they came back at the end of the day,
(Hold hands up to eyes, as if looking)
They all gave thanks in a special way!
(Put hands together as if praying)

Thankful Hands

These are my thankful hands,
(Hold up both hands)
Watch them clap!
(Clap hands)
These are my thankful feet,
Watch them tap!
(Tap feet)
This is my thankful heart,
Full of cheer!
(Hug yourself)
I’m thankful for Thanksgiving,
And friends right here!
(Hold hands with a friend)

Mr. Turkey

Hello, Mr. Turkey, how are you?
(Wave hello)
So big and fluffy, is it true?
(Puff up cheeks)
Are you hiding from Thanksgiving Day?
(Nod head)
Because everyone wants you on a tray!
(Put hands together as if carrying a tray)

Five Plump Turkeys

Five plump turkeys, sitting in a row,
(Hold up five fingers)
First one said, “I think it’s time to go!”
(Point thumb over shoulder)
Second one said, “I hear the farmer’s horn,”
(Cup hand to ear)
Third one said, “We’d better leave the barn!”
(Pretend to tiptoe)
Fourth one said, “Why, do you see a hat?”
(Point to head)
Fifth one said, “Gobble, gobble, gobble—that’s that!”
(Flap wings)

Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin pie, oh, pumpkin pie,
(Make a round shape with hands)
Bake it up and let it fly!
(Fan hands like you’re blowing a pie cool)
A pinch of spice and sugar sweet,
(Pinch with fingers)
This Thanksgiving treat is hard to beat!
(Rub belly)
