Celebrate National S’mores Day on August 10th with fun S’mores theme activities for preschoolers! S’mores are a fun snack made of graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows. You can also include these activities in a camping theme for extra adventure. Check out our list of S’mores theme activities to use in your preschool or early childhood classroom.
S’mores Patterns
Provide s’mores ingredients (graham crackers, chocolate squares, marshmallows) and see if the children can make patterns with them. For inspiration, you can use our S’Mores Pattern Cards. Download, cut each paper in half, laminate, and give children the cards. Have them create the pattern on the card.
S’mores Ingredient Sorting
Provide s’mores ingredients (graham crackers, chocolate squares, marshmallows) and ask children ways to sort them by size, color, or type. (Example: Small/Medium/Large; White/Brown; Square/Rectangle, etc.)
S’mores Sensory Art
Have kids use chocolate syrup, marshmallow fluff, and crushed graham crackers to create “paintings” on large pieces of paper. It’s a messy but incredibly fun way to combine art and sensory play.
S’mores Sensory Bin
Children can explore textures and practice fine motor skills with a s’mores-themed sensory bin. Fill a large bin or the sensory table with raham cracker crumbs, mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, scoops, and containers. Ask children to “find all the chocolate chips” or “how many marshmallows can you scoop?”
S’mores in a Solar Oven
Harness the energy of the sun to make s’mores! Follow the instructions from NASA Climate Kids.
