Flower Themed Group Kindness Activities

Looking for easy group kindness activities for preschoolers? These simple, low-prep ideas help teach social-emotional skills, kindness, and classroom community.  They all use a flower theme, so they are perfect for spring months!

Flower Compliment Circle

What to do:

  • Sit in a circle.
  • Give a flower (real or fake) to a child.
  • Say something kind about them.

Then they pass the flower on to the next child and say something kind about them.  Continue until the flower goes all the way around the circle.

Pass the Flower: Kind Action Ideas

What to do:

  • Sit in a circle.
  • Give a flower (real or fake) to a child.
  • Play music and have children start passing the flower around the circle.
  • When the music stops, the child shares one way to be kind in the classroom.  (ie. share toys, help friends clean up, etc.)

Optional twist:  Write everyone’s ideas on large chart paper.

Sharing Petals

What to do:

  • Cut out a simple flower with removable petals (one for each child).
  • Place petals in the center in a flower pot.
  • One at a time, have each child pick a petal to give to another child.  When that child gets it, they place it back on the flower.
  • That child then picks a petal from the flower pot and gives to a different child to put back on on the flower.

Continue until every child has been given a flower petal.  Once all the petals are back on the flower, take a moment to point out how sharing helped the flower “grow.”  Tell the children things like: “Look at our flower! It grew because we shared.”  Or “Just like our flower, our class grows when we are kind to each other.”

Kindness Breathing: Grow a Flower

What to do:

  • Give a flower (real or fake) to a child.
  • Tell the children to “Smell the flower” (inhale)
  • Then tell them “Blow kindness into the world” (exhale)

Since this is a calming activity, tell children, “When we calm our bodies, we can make kind choices.”

Planting a Kindness Garden

(this can be done with real flowers and soil or fake flowers and pot)

What to do:

  • Give each child a flower (real or fake)
  • Place a flower pot (with soil or without) in the center
  • One at a time, children “plant” their flower in the pot.
  • As, they plant their flower, they say, ““I will be kind by ___”.  (Suggestion: if child can’t think of something, tell them an example of when you saw them being kind (ie. “I saw you share the blocks today.”)

End by commenting, “Look at our garden. It grew because of kindness!”   This can continue anytime you catch children doing an act of kindness – just give them another flower to add to the pot and tell the rest of the children why that child is adding a flower to the kindness garden.
